HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 VS IONIQ 6
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 vs. the Hyundai IONIQ 6: Which EV is best for your lifestyle?
Here in the greater Williamsport area, electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly popular option for budget-conscious shoppers. And of all the new EVs on the market, few can match the appeal of our new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6. These two models represent the core of the Hyundai Brand's EV portfolio, and if you're considering buying or leasing one, you owe it to yourself to do your due diligence. Read on to learn more about these two models from our competitive comparison and find the right fit for your lifestyle.
Exterior Design
The most notable difference between these two EVs is their body style. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a small crossover EV, while the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is a sporty fastback sedan. In general, the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 is better suited for commuters and small families, while the new Hyundai IONIQ 6 is made for shoppers who're looking for an EV that'll turn heads as they cruise through the Bucknell University campus in nearby Lewisburg, PA.
Performance
On the performance front, both the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6 are on roughly even footing. With standard rear-wheel drive and one electric motor on both models, you'll enjoy up to 225 horsepower with both the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6. That's more than enough power for day-to-day driving in the greater Bloomsburg area. Plus, standard rear-wheel drive and an all-electric powertrain makes for effortless acceleration when you're transitioning from driving in town to commuting on I-80.
That said, for Muncy, PA shoppers who crave a more engaging driving experience, both the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6 can be had with a second electric motor driving the front axle. Not only does this afford both models all-wheel drive capability which makes them great for winter driving here in Pennsylvania, but also boosts power output up to 320 horsepower overall.
Range
The range of both the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6 can vary depending upon which trim you opt for.
For example, the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range can travel up to 220 miles on a single charge. That's enough to get you from the Roxy Theatre on Main Street in Lock Haven to our showroom and back over five times before you'd need to stop off for a charge.
On the other hand, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 SE Standard Range is a bit more efficient when it comes to range with its lower curb weight. It can travel up to 240 miles on a single charge.
That being said, when properly equipped, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 can travel up to 361 miles one electric power alone, allowing it to travel from the Whispering Oaks Vineyard in Sunbury to our showroom almost over nine times before running out of juice. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 tops out at 303 miles of all-electric range, but that's still plenty for the needs of most Pennsylvania drivers.
Charging Time
The time it takes to recharge can vary depending upon where you choose to charge up. Opt to charge up at home with a Level 2 240-volt home charger and it takes a little over six hours to reach full battery capacity with the new Hyundai IONIQ 5. However, if you use one of the DC Fast Charging Stations you can find around the greater Williamsport area, it can take as little as 18 minutes to charge up the majority of its battery capacity. Even five minutes of charging will give you up to 68 miles of usable range.
By comparison, the new Hyundai IONIQ 6 takes roughly a bit more time than the Hyundai IONIQ 5 to charge up at home on a Level 2 240-volt home charger. However, it matches the Hyundai IONIQ 5 exactly when recharging at a DC Fast Charge station, so neither model will leave you waiting around long when it comes time to recharge.

Interior Design
Both the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6 can seat up to five passengers inside. However, as you might expect from their differing body styles, the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 offers a bit more in the way of rear seat room and luggage space than the Hyundai IONIQ 6. Ultimately, if you're looking for an EV you can take shopping at the Lycoming Mall here in Muncy, PA, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 may be better suited to your needs. However, the new Hyundai IONIQ 6 still has plenty of trunk space for smaller luggage, gym bags, and overnight bags, and with its improved overall range, it's a great EV for road trips around Pennsylvania.
Technology
On the tech front, both the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and HYUNDAI IONIQ 6 come with an impressive array of innovations. With features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it's easy to stay connected and makes hands-free calls on the go, which will prove especially useful when you're on the Susquehanna Beltway in heavy traffic. Additionally, you'll find onboard navigation on both models, which is certain to be useful if you're finding your way to popular destinations like the Point Drive-In Theater over in Danville, PA.
Safety
Like many of our newest Hyundai models, the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6 comes outfitted with a slew of smart safety technologies standard. With the Hyundai SmartSense™ suite on both models, you'll have access to sought-after features like the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, which will save you a lot of stress in heavy foot traffic areas like the campus and streets surrounding the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Factor in features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keeping Assist, Safe Exit Assist, and even Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and it's not hard to see why safety-conscious Pennsylvania shoppers are so taken with these two new EVs.
